Raymond MacDonald and Alister Spence duo
‘Poetic interaction’ Bad Alchemy, ‘Uncanny structural convergence’ Sydney Morning Herald, ‘Inspired music making’ Jazzwise.
Glasgow-based sax player Raymond MacDonald and Australian pianist Alister Spence have been performing and recording together for more than 15 years. They share a curiosity for new and expansive sounds and a love of the entwined, enigmatic-yet-melodic-and-strangely-passionate sonic result. They have released two albums as a duo (2013, 2018), and a number of other releases playing together in various formats with performers including Sia Ahmad, Satoko Fujii, Tatsuya Yoshida, and Jim O’Rourke. Spence and MacDonald have toured in Scotland, England, Germany, Norway, Japan, and Australia.
Semay Wu and Skye Reynolds
Both Semay and Skye bounced off their first ever performance, in January this year, on a high-wired, and flagrantly luxurious, rave. This will be our second gathering at the Old Hairdressers. Semay improvises with amplified sounds of household objects, cello and squeaky detritus, while Skye is an improviser of dance, comedy and text. This time, both of them forage for vocals, plucked out of new grounds. It’s brand new, still… breaking up words into sonic ideas, and conversations. …it’s definitely not your average rave.
