The Zoo Story

The Zoo Story

Peter’s a nice guy. He’s quiet, polite and affable. Inoffensive. On Sundays, he takes a walk through the park. He visits his favourite bench. He sits, he reads, he smokes his pipe. For one small moment each week, he is content. Today, however, he is disturbed by a stranger named Jerry.

Their coming together is, to Jerry’s mind, an opportunity. A singular chance at something intimate, powerful and entirely irreversible.

Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story is a potent analysis of American capitalism and urban loneliness. It remains as blisteringly relevant today as it was when first published.
