MIRRORED MIND (2005) – DV8 Film Club

Come join us for Gakuryū Ishii’s unforgettable, hypnotic MIRRORED MIND, preceded by the short film OFFRUNG by Charlie Mitchell.

MIRRORED MIND is the third film shown by the DV8 Film Club, a new film club in Glasgow showcasing the best of miniDV and Digital Video.

DV8 is a new film club dedicated to exploring the weird and wonderful world of films made on Digital Video. These films are characterised by a “lo-fi” aesthetic that is flat, noisy, and imperfect – far from the “cinematic” look that we are accustomed to today. The purpose of this film club is to find new ways of looking at this format, usually attributed to home footage from the 1990s or turn-of-the-century skate videos, and to assess its relevancy as an alternative and viable method of making films.

The third film for DV8 is by Gakuryū Ishii and follows a woman who suffers an identity crisis and transports herself to a tropical paradise, away from the hustle and noise of Tokyo. Anyone who has seen ANGEL DUST or AUGUST IN THE WATER will appreciate the continuation of Ishii’s signature languid, dreamy style – his films make me feel like I’m floating on air.

It will be preceded by the premiere of Charlie Mitchell’s excellent short film, OFFRUNG, shot in Possil marsh in Glasgow.
