Ladr Ache, Eimear Reidy & Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh Duo

Ladr Ache deploys music in constant motion, made of friction, momentum and non-linear trajectories. The group, made up of six blacksmiths of sound, invites us to a circular experience that slips into the cracks to reveal patterns inspired by traditions without borders, carried by hybrid scales, imaginary languages and mechanical pulses that beat and then derail. It goes forward by tremors, loops, happy accidents. On stage, ladr.ache composes a dense and porous sound material, where the intimate mixes with the collective, where the machines seem to breathe and the silences weigh as much as the saturations. A form of unstable ritual is built little by little: fragile, physical, inhabited.

For over ten years, Brussels-originals ladr ache have dipped their toes and vocal chords in all matter of musical mischief as only they know how. With éclats z, their latest recorded offering, new canons arise that belong to no place or genre. Between the layers of chant, other voices turn up in old tongues and secret languages, gliding alongside pipes and electronic warps, pulsing in time with the granularity of choice. Recorded over two years in different times and spaces, the living textures that emerge are sonic libations as much as modern lullabies, inhabiting zones of ancient passages and timeless exploration.

Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh will be performing in a new duo with Eimear Reidy.

Ailbhe and Eimear have played together for some years as part of a larger collaborative project called Around Here The Birds Plant the Trees created by Natalia Beylis. This composition has seen numerous performances throughout Ireland and was premiered at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in 2023. This will be their first performance as a duo, expanding upon the improvisational relationship that began during this collaboration.

Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh is a composer and viola player from Ireland. A background in experimental, DIY, early & baroque, jazz & improvised music inform her practice. In her approach to the viola, Nic Oireachtaigh enjoys to excavate the potential of the instrument as a sound producing object, alongside a more conventional melodic path. She is inspired by minimalism as an activity and sound palette and focuses on experiential sound through the use of quietness and overdrives in live performance.

Eimear Reidy is an experimental musician and improvising cellist with a composition practice focused both on new music for solo cello and collaborative composing with her fellow musicians and sound artists. Reidy’s work focuses on the rigorous exploration and development of extended cello techniques, combined with the occasional use of electronics, field recordings and objects creating a broad expressive palette.

Eimear has performed her own work at The Hundred Years Gallery, London, The Old Hairdressers, Glasgow, Kirkos, Dublin, Whelan’s, Dublin, The Empire Belfast The Dock Arts Centre, Carrick On Shannon, The Source Arts Centre and as part of concert series and festivals including Feile Na Greine, Limerick, Live at St. Lukes, Quiet Lights, Electric Circus, Skibbereen Arts Festival, Spike Cello Festival and Reception.
